EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 25, 2023) – Combining for seven goals in the contest between them,
TJ Gravante and
Kelly Gouin kickstarted Saturday's game for Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse with a 4-0 run. Never looking back, the team led wire-to-wire for a 10-7 win over the Wagner Seahawks.
The four goals by Gravante are a new career high for the freshman, and Gouin now has hat tricks in back-to-back games.
Jared McMahon joined the duo as a multi-goal scorer, adding two assists.
Griffin McGinley supplied eight saves in the win.
Mitchell Dunham added eight ground balls and six caused turnovers, while
Connor Beals went 10-for-16 on faceoffs.
Mount St. Mary's improves to 3-6 (2-1 MAAC) while Wagner falls to 2-6 (1-2 MAAC).
The 4-0 run came at a rapid pace, with the Mountaineers already up 3-0 before five minutes of game time had elapsed. Jack Brady broke the ice for the Seahawks with 8:54 in the first, but McMahon and Gouin posted goals to end the opening frame on a high note, 6-1.
Wagner put small divots in the lead during the second and third quarters, but the lead proved insurmountable. Gravante and McMahon scored again to keep the Mount up 8-4 by halftime. The freshman scored his fourth to open the second half, and defenses took over from there. The final 30 minutes featured five combined goals – three for the Seahawks and two for the Mountaineers.
Kevin Whitty, Jr. added his name to the scoresheet with 7:53 left in the contest.
