EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 15, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse made a furious comeback attempt over the last few minutes against the Old Dominion Monarchs. With the chance at a tie, Dani Donoghue fired a shot on goal, but a save by the keeper preserved an 8-7 win for the Monarchs.
 
Anna Salerno and Abby Osmeyer supplied most of the offense for the Mount with the duo recording hat tricks. Salerno also tied Logan Cook for tops in draw controls with three. Madison Bradley had five saves and four ground balls in net, while Sophia Culmone tacked on four caused turnovers.
 
Old Dominion picked up its fourth win on the year as Danielle Dundas contributed half of the team's goals.
 
The Mount fell behind 4-1 then rallied with a 3-0 run to tie thanks to a successful free position shot and goals from Julianna Sanchez and Salerno. Osmeyer's second goal with 41 seconds remaining put up the Mountaineers up 5-4 at half.
 
ODU did all the scoring in the third, forcing the tie 49 seconds in. The Monarchs would hold a 7-5 advantage entering the fourth and would be up 8-5 with five minutes left.
 
Forcing a turnover at the two minute mark allowed Osmeyer to capitalize to bring it back to 8-6. The Mount won the next draw control and scored on a Salerno shot. With the next draw control going to the Monarchs, things looked bleak but stingy and aggressive defense regained possession. The clear attempt gave the Mountaineers a chance to call time and set up a play for Donoghue in the middle. The senior worked her way around the defense, but Jenna Peccia saved the shot and held on for the final whistle.
 
Mount St. Mary's hosts Virginia Tech next Wednesday (Mar. 22).
