Bowling Finishes Fifth, One Spot and 59 Pins Shy of Nationals Berth

Smyrna, Tenn. (March 12, 2023) – The Mount Bowling team saw their 2023 postseason run come to an end with a heartbreaking fifth place finish at the Intercollegiate Team Championships sectional qualifier.

The team finished a mere 59-pins (0.92 pins per game) behind fourth place Tennessee Southern after 64 baker games. Joining UTS in qualifying for nationals were McKendree, Maryland Eastern Shore, and Saint Francis (IL).

Graduate Student Barbara Hawes was sensational in her final sectionals appearance, cleaning all 32 of her frames and posting a 20.21 frame average for the weekend, including a 21.72 in Sunday competition. Sophomore Rachel Hines continued her nice weekend with a 19.33 overall frame average, providing key frames in both the anchor and leadoff positions.

Despite their postseason run coming to an end, the Mountaineers still have one more NCAA competition scheduled to gain some momentum heading into the offseason. The team will compete in the Northeast Roundup next weekend in Delaware to conclude the 2022-23 season
