Towson, Md. (February 11, 2023) – The Mount bowling team will be one of four with a shot at the James Brown Invitational title tomorrow. Following traditional play, the Mountaineers remain in fourth with enough pins between them and fifth to all but ensure themselves a spot in the championship bracket following one more round of qualifying Sunday morning.
Saturday saw MSM pick up three wins over Coppin State, Bryant and Howard while dropping one match to the #24 nationally ranked tournament host Morgan State Bears. Freshman
Trishelle Leal Uribe had the highest total pin fall for the Mount, posting a 972 five game total and 194.4 average. Freshman
Sierra Calo was the high average for MSM with a 208.5 over the final two games. Junior
Alyssa Alexander 781 for four games and a 195.3.
#18 Mount: 893 | #24 Morgan State: 958
After a red hot start yesterday, the Mount failed to get anything going in the opening round of traditional play. Alexander led all Mountaineers with a 191.
#18 Mount: 1,005 | BYE
The Mount posted their second 1,000 set of the weekend but would not get a win due to the BYE round. Graduate student
Barbara Hawes led the way with a 226, while Alexander was right behind her with a 225.
#18 Mount: 925 | Coppin State: 915
The Mountaineers edged out the Eagles of Coppin State in a match that came down to the final frames. Leal Uribe posted a 223 and freshman
Laney Wells posted a 201.
#18 Mount: 856 | Bryant: 829
The Mount once again found themselves in a close match, this time of the low scoring variety. Calo was the lone Mountaineer over 200 with a 203 in the win over Bryant.
#18 Mount: 1,028 | Howard: 811
MSM ended with their daily high set in a blowout win over the Bison. Wells (221), Alexander (216) and Calo (214) pushed the pace to conclude a 3-1 day.
Competition will resume at 8:30 AM ET tomorrow with one final traditional match against Fayetteville State. The Mount is still in striking distance of third, but staying in the top four will ensure them a spot in the championship bracket. #10 UMES and #6 NCAT are the other two teams along with #24 MSU that should be in the mix.
