EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 28, 2023) – Junior Jonathan Yowell provided an equalizing goal for Mount St. Mary's men's soccer Saturday, but Iona was granted a penalty minutes later, allowing the Gaels to achieve a 2-1 win.
 
Mackie Sacarellos added the assist for his third of the season, matching Erick Villatoro for the second most points on the team with five. For Yowell, the strike marks the first time he has found the back of the net as a Mountaineer. The goal came in the 54^th minute of the contest.
 
Leading Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) scorer Camil Azzam Ruiz hit home both goals for the Gaels – an eighth minute shot and the penalty, awarded in the 72^nd minute. Azzam Ruiz now has 13 goals in 2023.
 
This Wednesday (Nov. 1), Mount St. Mary's travels to Niagara for a must-win game to make the MAAC playoffs. A victory by the Mountaineers nets them the sixth seed but any other result sends the Purple Eagles to the postseason. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. from Lewiston, New York.
