EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 27, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer sets out to finish the 2023 regular season on the road. This weekend marks the first of two matches when they face the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) leading Iona Gaels.   
 
MOUNT UPDATE: A handful of opportunities to respond to a third-minute goal came up short as the Mountaineers fell to Rider 1-0 in last Wednesday's home finale. The setback pushed the team to the outside looking in regarding MAAC playoffs, as they now hold seventh place with eight points. After posting a goal in the previous six matches, the team looks to ward against offensive frustrations of two shutouts as they head down the stretch.
 
ABOUT IONA: Following their first MAAC loss to Fairfield, the Gaels rallied to post a 2-1 win over Siena. Prior to that, they opened league play with six consecutive wins and continue to sit atop the conference standings. At 24 goals with 19 in MAAC play, Iona has the highest producing offense. Camil Azzam Ruiz has 11 of them, which holds a firm grip on the individual leaderboard.  
 
ALL-TIME SERIES: Iona broke the series tie with a win last October in the first meeting for the teams since 2011. The Gaels lead all-time 3-2, with the Mount picking up a 3-0 win in 2001 and a 2-1 decision in 2007.
