EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 25, 2023) – A goal in the third minute proved the difference as Mount St. Mary's men's soccer fell to the Rider Broncs 1-0 on Wednesday evening.
The match was a tight contest, with the Mount outshooting the Broncs by a 13-10 margin.
Markus Nilsen had the highest total of shots with four, three of which were on goal.
Rider made an early strike count when Babacar Diene planted a right-footed shot at the right side of the net. Zaki Alibou and Saad Chaouki received assists.
In the 17
th minute, there was an opportunity to draw level when
Mackie Sacarellos was brought down by the Broncs' keeper, inducing a penalty try. Nilsen took the chance, which was saved by Adam Salama. Several chances came about in the second half, including a final minute prospect where
Junee Lee had open space. The shot went wide of the goal in what ended up as the last moment of the match.
The Mount heads to Iona this Saturday (Oct. 28) for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
