Partito Pounds Home Equalizer as Mount St. Mary’s Draws with Quinnipiac

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 18, 2023) – Graduate student Raimondo Partito found the back on the net in the closing minute of the first half, helping Mount St. Mary's men's soccer earn a 1-1 draw with the Quinnipiac Bobcats Wednesday.

The Mountaineers now have secured points in their last three matches, keeping them entrenched in the playoff hunt for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in November.

Although they fell behind on an eighth minute goal from Quinnipiac's Alex Miller, Mount St. Mary's was able to stay close thanks to two Ethan Russell saves in the first 13 minutes. As time wound down to the half, the Mount began to put the pressure on in the offensive zone. With 50 seconds remaining, Bobby Marsteller found Mackie Sacarellos at the top of the box. One graduate student found another as Partito converted on a boot from the right side.

For Partito, the strike is his first in a Mountaineers uniform and the second of his collegiate career. He last scored on October 16, 2021 as a member of Rutgers-Camden.

Strong defense assured a draw as the Bobcats were unable to register a shot on goal in the second half. Partito had a second attempt, along with a shot by Jonathan Yowell, that were both turned away by the Quinnipiac goalkeeper.

Remaining on the road, Mount St. Mary's battles Siena Saturday (Oct. 21). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. from Loudonville, New York.
