EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 4, 2022) – After dropping a match in the toughest way possible, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer looks to bounce back against the George Washington Colonials.
ABOUT THE MOUNT
Seconds away from earning a tie against the Lafayette Leopards, the Mount watched as a last stitch effort sailed into the back of the net, handing them a 2-1 defeat. Still, the match showed signs of improvement after the 2021 team fell to the Leopards 3-0 in Easton.
Marcus Lewis scored the then-equalizing goal in the first half, taking the team lead in goals at two.
Jesus Salazar supplied the assist, bringing his point total of the week to five. Despite taking the defeat, goalkeeper
Ethan Russell is taking charge in the net, registered saves at a rate of 78 percent.
ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON
The Colonials look to stay unbeaten on the year, coming into the match with two victories and a tie. After drawing with William & Mary, George Washington defeated Manhattan and Columbia. Oscar Haynes-Brown leads in points with five – two goals and an assist.
The home side will have one less piece of the puzzle to rely on, as defenseman Lucas Matuszewski received a red card in the Columbia match. By rule, he is forced to sit out Monday's event.
ALL-TIME SERIES
In eight previous matches, George Washington holds the lead at 6-2. But last season, on a rainy night in Emmitsburg, the Mount took a 1-0 victory from the Colonials. A scrappy game in harsh conditions gave way to yield one second half score.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Mount St. Mary's returns to the road Friday (Sept. 9) to face Bucknell.
