Mount Tennis Completes First Day of Bucknell Invitational

Day 1 Results

Lewisburg, Pa. (September 2, 2022)—The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams opened the season with day one of the Bucknell Invitational on Friday.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

The Mount had three winners in the A singles draw.Elliot Stevens downed Bucknell's Tim Zelikovsky (6-3, 1-6, 10-7), Filippos Zachiotis earned a win over Michael Owen of Bucknell (6-4, 6-1) and Giovanni Abriola earned a win over Lafayette's Nick McKenzie (6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-4).
In the B singles draw, Jarrett Karnibad was a straight set winner over Lafayette's Nash Lovallo (6-2, 6-1) while Nick Huynh also won in straight sets over Saint Francis U's Adam Texeira (6-4, 6-3).
Joshua Johnson was a winner in the C singles draw over Saint Francis U's Zachary Palko (6-4, 6-2).
In doubles, Karnibad and Zachiotis moved on with a 6-3 win over a Bucknell pair while Stevens and Abriola had a 6-1 win over a Lafayette tandem in the A draw.
In the B doubles draw, the Mount's pair of Andrew Allen and Luke Papayoanou moved on with a victory over a team from Bucknell.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

In the A draw, Victoria Papadopoulou made her collegiate debut a win with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Saint Francis U's Nagisa Miyake.
In the B draw, Adriana Barney had a pair of wins, besting Katie Novak of Bucknell (6-2, 4-6, 10-3) and Marie Discni of Saint Francis (8-2). Ana Alvarez-Storni posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jessie Thompson from Saint Francis.
In the A doubles, Papadopoulou and Shirley Liang won 7-5 over a Bucknell pair while Amber Policare and Bella Pescatore won 6-2 over a Saint Francis U team.

The tournament continues on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday.
