Mount St. Mary's Records Scoreless Draw at UNC Asheville

Drew Camp made three saves in her first career shutout for the Mountaineers

Asheville, N.C. (September 14, 2022)—Mount St. Mary's closed out the non-conference schedule with a 0-0 draw at UNC Asheville on Wednesday afternoon.  Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Camp made three saves to earn her first career shutout.  The 0-0 standstill moves the Mount's record to 1-1-4 on the season, matching the program record for ties in a season set during the 2005 season.

The Mountaineer defense has been a strength all season with this being the team's second consecutive clean sheet.  Mount St. Mary's has allowed just five goals in the team's six games this year.
Senior Madison Bee had one of the Mount's top scoring chances just 15 seconds into the game, but her shot was stopped by UNC Asheville goalkeeper Bronwyn Luitwieler.  Bee had another shot denied in the 18th minute.

The Bulldogs (2-4-2) had their best chance of the opening half in the 24th minute, but Camp came out and challenged Kaila Boyd and was able to deflect her initial shot.  Boyd got the rebound, but sent the attempt just wide of the goal to the right.

The second half saw the teams combine for just one shot on target with Camp coming through with a save in the opening minute.  Camp preserved the tie in the final minute when she came out to challenge UNC Asheville's Daysha Cheney and snare the ball away on a breakaway attempt.

For the game, UNC Asheville had a 16-to-10 shot advantage with the Mount holding a 10-to-9 edge in corner kicks.  Each goalkeeper made three saves in the game.

The Mount heads home on Saturday to face Marist in the first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game for the program.  Kick-off at Waldron Family Stadium is slated for 1:00 p.m.
