EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 29, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer opens their home schedule for 2022, with matches against Radford on Tuesday and Lafayette on Friday.
SCOUTING THE MOUNT
Last Thursday, the Mountaineers traveled to Delaware for the opening match against the Blue Hens. In a 2-0 decision, Delaware found the back of the net twice off counter attacks.
Ethan Russell made four saves, including one denying a penalty kick.
The Mount had some opportunities, particularly after a red card was shown in the 73
rd minute to Delaware. Five players took shots in the game, with
Ondrej Soukup and
Bobby Marsteller registering on-goal attempts.
THE OPPONENTS
Radford, looking to rebound from a 5-11 season, fell in their opener 3-0 at Liberty. The Flames outpaced the Highlanders 12-5 in shots, scoring on a penalty in the first half and twice in the second half. Most of Radford's point scorers from last year need to be replaced, with their leading returner Octavio Ocampo scoring twice in 2021.
Lafayette is coming off a 7-7-4 season in 2021 but lost to Fairleigh Dickinson in their opener. They face Albany on Monday before traveling to Emmitsburg. Leading goal scorer Hale Lombard is back after scoring six times last year, and figures to factor into the Leopards' offense this year with three attempts in the game versus FDU.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's seeks their first win against either team. Combined, the Highlanders and Leopards possess an 0-6-1 record, with the draw occurring against Radford way back in 1981. Last season, the Mount traveled to Lafayette – a 3-0 victory for the home team.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Back to the road the Mount will go next week, with non-conference showdowns at George Washington (Sept. 5) and Bucknell (Sept. 9).
