Game Recap: Baseball |

Mount’s Offense Swift, but Sacred Heart Swifter Sunday

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 8, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's baseball put up 17 runs in a doubleheader with the Sacred Heart Pioneers. But the home side tabulated 23, taking both games by finals of 14-12 and 9-5.

Efrain Correa, Jr. hit his second grand slam in two days, going 3-for-5 in the opening game with six runs driven in. Thomas Bramley added his 11th home run of the season, and Brady Drawbaugh belted a solo shot to open scoring in the second contest.

Batters for the Mount totaled 28 hits on the day. Tristan McAlister led the way with three safeties in each game, and Bramley also enjoyed multi-hit efforts in both bouts.

In the first game, Sacred Heart jumped out to the early lead, going up 6-0 before the Mount made a comeback. Most of the Mountaineers' runs came in the fifth with the Correa grand slam and a Jake Maske sacrifice fly. The rally tied the score at seven, but the Pioneers responded with three in the bottom half to go up 10-7. Another four-run inning with RBI hits from Drawbaugh, Correa and Tyler Long pulled the Mount within 13-12, but SHU managed to hold on.

Starter Cooper Adams gave the Mount an opportunity to salvage the finale, going a solid six innings and allowing two runs. Drawbaugh's home run along with a two-run double from Ryan Fisher helped the visitors build a 5-1 lead after five innings. Sacred Heart surged back with a seven-run seventh. Batting around, Justin Jordan started the scoring with a triple to score Jay Levito. Steven Schoen tied the game with a single and after the go-ahead run came on a hit-by-pitch, Levito cleared the bases with a double to finalize the score at 9-5.

Next up is a three-game set with Wagner, beginning May 13th in Lakewood, New Jersey.
