Top Team in Nation Forces Mount into Saturday Battle

ERIE, Pa. (April 8, 2022) – Following Friday's first-ever win over Medaille, Mount St. Mary's faced off against No. 1 McKendree for a place in the Erie Regional Championship. The Bearcats lived up to their ranking, talking a traditional and Quint Baker sweep, forcing the Mount into a do-or-die elimination match Saturday morning.

Traditional: McKendree 1021 | Mount 854

A slow start handicapped the Mountaineers, but several athletes stepped up to attempt a momentum swing. Kayla Durbala, Danielle Milo and Tamera Stanton substituted midway through and delivered some crucial strikes. Amanda Yeung led the way with a 202.

Quint Bakers: McKendree 1107 | Mount 1009

The revamped continued to contend a challenge early, posting scores of 224 and 223. McKendree maintained the pressure with an opening game of 268 and led by 16 after two of five. A solid run by the Mount, stacking five at the end of the last 10 frames, came up short as the Bearcats matched the feat.

Medaille eliminated Bowie State in Match #4, setting up a Mountaineers-Mavericks rematch. Mega match play begins at 9 a.m. at Rolling Meadow Lanes.
