Mount Women’s Lacrosse Cruised Past Wagner 15-4

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 6, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse routs Wagner 15-4 behind Christina Haspert's career-high eight points (4g, 4a) to pick up their second NEC win this season. Dani Donoghue tied her career-high points and goals with five goals and six points, while Alayna Pagnotta added three goals to increase her season total to 20. Beanie Colson did it all, registering one goal, one assist, two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and five draw controls. The Mount outshot the Seahawks 34-20, including a 22-7 advantage at half.

Stefani Peluso and Maria Henwood led Wagner with two goals each.

Madison Bradley made eight saves for the Mountaineers, while Lauren DiStefano made seven saves, and Bryn Brockstie registered one save for the Seahawks.

The game got off to a fast start with both teams scoring on their first possession, but Donoghue broke the tie at the nine mark on a free position shot to give the Mount a 2-1 lead. The Mountaineers increased the lead to 3-1 a minute later on a nice feed from Jordan Groover to Colson, who fired a shot far post that got past DiStefano. Haspert scored her first when she got a pass, then spun around her defender and shot a bouncing shot that got over the line to increase the lead to three.

Wagner started the second quarter with a goal on a free position shot by Peluso, but the Mountaineers responded with two quick goals from Pagnotta and Donoghue to make the score 6-2 with 11:56 left. Pagnotta scored her second goal midway through the quarter when Haspert received the ball behind the net and found Pagnotta cutting to the net, who buried the shot in the corner to increase the lead to five. The Mountaineer made the score 8-2 when Erin Anderson was able to outmuscle her defender to pick up the ball and find Donoghue, who made the extra pass, to Haspert, who beat DiStefano one-on-one. Pagnotta completed her hat trick with eight seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Mount a 9-2 lead going into the half.

Haspert scored her third goal on a fantastic solo effort to give the Mountaineers an eight goal lead. Donoghue completed her hat trick with 12:02 left in the third quarter to provide the Mount with an 11-2 lead. Wagner cut the lead back to eight with 5:39 remaining, but the Mountaineers scored two goals before the third ended to take a 10 goal lead.

Haspert scored her fourth goal after Colson saw Haspert run around her defender and fire a shot while running that found the back of the net to give the Mount a 14-3 advantage. Wagner scored midway through the fourth to bring the lead down to 10. Donoghue scored the game's final goal when Haspert went behind the net and found Donoghue cutting to the middle, who fired a quick shot that ended up in the net.
