EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 27, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse picked up their sixth straight win after defeating Howard 21-1 on Wednesday afternoon. This is the fewest goals the Mount has allowed since 2013, when the Mountaineers shut out Delaware State 18-0.
Christina Haspert had two goals and three assists, while
Zoe Hurlburt had a game-high four goals and added one assist.
Lizzie Stevenson and
Alayna Pagnotta scored a hat trick, while
Beanie Colson had three assists and one goal. The Mountaineers outshot the Bison 35-9, including holding them to zero shots in the third quarter.
Quai Ridley-Skeete scored the lone goal for Howard to extend her goal streak to 13 games.
Madison Bradley made two saves, and
Delaney LaRose made four saves for the Mount. Anya Waller made 12 saves for Howard.
Jordan Groover scored the game's first game just over a minute in, then Haspert scored on the next possession for the Mountaineers on a free position to go up 2-0. Pagnotta made the score 3-0 minutes later, then Hurlburt netted her 40th goal of the season to increase the lead to 4-0. Pagnotta scored her second and third goal of the quarter on the following possessions for the Mount to make the score 6-0. Haspert got her second of the day with 4:16 remaining in the first quarter, then Colson converted her only free position attempt to increase the lead to 8-0.
Dani Donoghue and Hurlburt each added a late goal to give the Mount a 10-0 lead at the end of the first.
Anna McQuay scored her fourth goal of the season to start the second quarter. Both teams traded possessions until Stevenson scored her first goal of the game with 4:05 left in the second. Stevenson scored minutes later on a free position attempt to get her fourth goal of the year.
Madison Harmening scored with 18 seconds left to give the Mount a 14-0 lead going into halftime.
McQuay and
Molly Molchanoff scored two quick goals to extend the lead to 16. Hurlburt scored the Mount's next two goals to make the score 18-0 with 5:38 left in the third.
Lindsey Tolliver scored her fifth goal of the season to close out the third quarter.
Howard scored on a free position attempt to make the score 19-1, then Stevenson and Harmening each scored to reach the final scoreline of 21-1.
Mount St. Mary's heads to New Britain, Connecticut, for their regular-season finale against CCSU on Saturday, April 30th at 1:00 p.m.
