Sluggish Second Half Dooms Men’s Lacrosse 14-7

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 23, 2022) - The Mountaineers are held to one goal in the second half as Bryant secures a 14-7 win over the Mount. Connor McMahon led the Mountaineers with two goals and one assist, while Jake Krieger had two assists and one goal. The Mount falls to 2-4 in the NEC with one game remaining. The Bulldogs outshot the Mountaineers 46-38.
 
Marc O'Rourke and Logan McGovern led Bryant with five points, while Bennet Abladian had three goals.
 
Gunnar Luckoski made 12 saves for the Mountaineers, while Luke Caracciolo made 11 saves for the Bulldogs.
 
McGovern gave Bryant an early 1-0 lead, then Abladian scored his first on the next possession to increase the lead to two with 8:16 left. The Mount converted an extra-man opportunity when Justin Weick found C. McMahon open next to the crease and buried the chance to cut the deficit in half. McMahon got his second goal with 51 seconds remaining on a tight angle that got past Caracciolo and bounced off two posts before crossing the line.
 
Brendan Lantieri gave the Mount a 3-2 advantage to start the second quarter, and Jared McMahon doubled the lead after he caused a turnover, picked up the ground ball, and fired it into the net. The Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run that lasted just over a minute to make the score 6-4 midway through the second. Kreiger reduced the deficit to one after he fired a shot with a defender all over that found the back of the net, and before halftime, J. McMahon scored his second to tie the game at six.
 
The third quarter started with two quick goals by Bryant to jump out to an 8-6 lead within the first couple of minutes. The Bulldogs added another goal four minutes later to increase their lead to three. Bryant added two more goals to make the score 11-6 with 6:32 left. Kyle Cullen scored his fifth goal of the season to reduce the deficit to four before heading into the fourth.
 
The Bulldogs made the score 12-7 early in the fourth, then added another goal midway through to increase their lead to six. Bryant scored a late goal to reach the final scoreline of 14-7. Caracciolo made 10 saves in the second half, with five in each quarter.
 
Connor Beals went 4-out-of-13 (30.8%), while Ethan Holobinko went 3-out-of-10 (30%) from the X today.
 
The Mountaineers wrap up their season at Hobart on Saturday, April 30th, at 2:00 p.m.
