Baseball Drops Saturday Showdown in New Britain

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 23, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's baseball held a 1-0 lead until it evaporated into nine unanswered runs from the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. The 9-1 loss hands the series to CCSU, and the Mount will look to salvage the finale Sunday (Apr. 24).

Brady Drawbaugh supplied the Mountaineers run off a sacrifice fly in the second, scoring Tyler Grodell. For the first three innings, Luke Pryor locked in on the hill. After stranding the bases loaded in the first, he retired the Blue Devils in order in the second and avoided damage from a third inning error.

CCSU took the lead in the fourth on a double from Elliot Good that sent home a pair. Then came the fifth when six Blue Devils touched the plate, capped off by a grand slam from Mike Torniero. Pitching held the charge for the home team from then on, as the Mount was limited to four baserunners – two hits and two walks.

Game three of the series is set for 1 p.m. at the CCSU Baseball Field.
