EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 24, 2022) – Nine runs on Sunday, including four RBIs from
Aiden Tierney, helped Mount St. Mary's baseball defeat Central Connecticut and snap a six game losing streak.
Starting pitcher
Cooper Adams delivered a great outing, going eight frames and striking out nine Blue Devils.
Blake Beal helped finish off the job with gathering the final two outs.
Mount took control of the game in the third inning.
Tristan McAlister grounded into a fielder's choice to score
Ryan Fisher. Tierney followed with a double for a 2-0 lead. The following frame,
Matt McTighe added a sacrifice fly for a three-run advantage. Another sac fly from
Efrain Correa, Jr. built the lead up to 5-2.
In the ninth, the Mount put the contest in hand with a single from
Tyler Grodell and a three-run shot from Tierney. CCSU made a small rally of two runs in the bottom half but ended up short.
Improving to 10-24 (5-10 NEC) and with four weekends left in Northeast Conference play, Mount St. Mary's remains within three games of a playoff spot.
