Pryor Goes Distance as Mount Baseball Secures First Conference Win

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 2, 2022) – On the backs of a spectacular pitching effort from junior Luke Pryor, the Mount St. Mary's baseball team locked up their first Northeast Conference win of 2022, silencing the bats of Wagner College in a 7-1 win.

Making his fourth appearance and first start, Pryor did not disappoint, fanning six batters and limiting the Seahawks to 10 base runners. Only two Wagner players managed extra base hits – a double from Dante Faicchio and a ninth inning Griffin Selby home run.

Selby's shot is the lone blemish across three games for Pryor, lowering his ERA to 3.20 thanks to his 17 combined innings of work between games at Lamar, Fairleigh Dickinson and Saturday. The game also marks his first complete game as a collegiate player.

The Mount played efficient on offense, using a collection of small ball tactics to cross the plate seven times with 16 baserunners. Thomas Bramley continued to be the main catalyst, with two hits including a fourth inning blast, and three runs driven in. Matt McTighe provided steady support batting in the ninth spot, going 2-for-4 and scoring twice.

Scoreless until the bottom of the third, an error by Wagner's right field opened the door for the Mount. With Efrain Correa, Jr. and Tristan McAlister aboard, Bramley came through in the clutch again, sending them both home on a single. McTighe doubled to lead off the fifth and promptly stole third, allowing McAlister to bring him in. Bramley's solo shot increased the margin to 4-0.

Insurance runs off the bats of Tyler Long, Tyler Grodell and Correa pushed the advantage even further. With the game well in hand, Pryor – working past the 100-pitch mark – pumped the strike zone. That induced two strikeouts but the home run by Selby blocked the junior's shutout hopes. An unassisted dribbler off the bat of Quinn Mimnaugh moments later sealed the deal.

The rubber game between Mount St. Mary's and Wagner takes place at 1 p.m. Sunday (April 3) at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
