EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 3, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's baseball used a pitching trio of starter
Cooper Adams and relievers
Isaac Van Meter and
Blake Beal to contain the Wagner Seahawks to one run and deliver their team a series win in a 3-1 victory.
Adams went six innings in another excellent start on his home mound, striking out seven and conceding a sacrifice fly in the second frame. Van Meter and Beal both got out of jams in the later innings to preserve the lead. Beal received credit for the save.
On offense,
Tyler Grodell logged a pair of hits and an RBI.
Tristan McAlister came in clutch with an RBI single of his own. McAlister,
Danny Salisbury and
Matt McTighe all came across home plate to score.
Wagner opened the scoring with Quinn Mimnuagh's sacrifice, so the Mount's triumph was in come-from-behind fashion. Grodell's single tied the game and a throwing error by the Seahawks shortstop on the same play allowed McAlister to register the go-ahead run. His infield hit one inning later brought home Salisbury for the 3-1 score.
Two Seahawks get on base in the eighth, both reaching scoring position. Van Meter induced the first popup, and after a pitching change, Beal needed one pitch to get the second popup that retired the side. A leadoff single in the ninth did no damage as the Mountaineers reliever fanned Wagner's last hope looking.
Mount St. Mary's improves to 6-16 (2-4 NEC). They host Coppin State in a Wednesday (April 6) showdown. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m. from E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
