EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 2, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse found themselves in a hole at halftime, conceding 10 goals to the Merrimack Warriors. Playing even in the second half, Merrimack rode that momentum to a 14-9 win Saturday at Duane Stadium in North Andover.
Jake Kreiger supplied three goals and two assists, leading the team with five points. That total advances him to have the second most on the team, trailing
Connor McMahon. For his part, McMahon added a goal and a ground ball.
Kadin Kightlinger also found the back of the net twice, doubling his scoring output for the year.
Griffin McGinley had a busy day in goal, facing 28 shots with 14 saves. His Merrimack counterpart Henry Vogt faced 22 on-target attempts by the Mountaineers, stopping 13 of them.
The Warriors received a game-high four scores from Jack Rooney. Following an 0-2 start, Merrimack leveled with the Mount in the Northeast Conference standings at 1-2.
Kightlinger gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead, taking a ball from
Jared McMahon and scoring a minute and 45 seconds in. That lead was short lived as Merrimack drew even with 10:47 in the first. Two of Rooney's four goals came in the next four minutes of game time – the second pushing the Warriors up 3-2 and in the lead to stay. Kightlinger's second score at 1:42 in the first would be as close as the Mount would get.
Trailing 12-6 after three periods, the Mount staged a comeback attempt. Merrimack limited their possessions by failing clear attempts, and Kreiger took advantage of the additional opportunities with a score at 10:28 left. One minute later,
Kyle DeCrispino came through on a pass from
Justin Wieck to make the score 12-8 Warriors.
Merrimack seized control again in man-up situations, making the most of Mountaineer penalties. Wieck contributed a man-up goal for the visitors to wrap up scoring.
Four contests remain on the Mount's schedule. Next up is a Saturday home game with Long Island on April 9
