EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 14, 2022) – Wind aided chaos and well-timed hits by the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights sent Mount St. Mary's baseball to defeat during Thursday's three-game series opener. FDU maintained their grip on first place in the Northeast Conference with a 13-4 win.
Efrain Correa, Jr. and
Tyler Long hit solo shots to continue their torrid pace at the plate.
Tristan McAlister and
Jason Rivera also scored on a FDU error.
Blustery conditions played a factor from the first pitch as the Mount campus found themselves on the back end of a spring storm. This helped the Knights' Hunter D'Amato and Joan Sosa hit home runs for an early FDU lead. Leading hitter George Rosales punched a double to give his team an 8-0 advantage.
Correa's round tripper put the Mount on the board at 8-1. But a combination of free passes, errors and clutch hits extended the Knights' lead. FDU finished the contest with 13 runs crossing the plate on 12 safe hits.
Mount St. Mary's drops to 9-19 (4-6 NEC) with Fairleigh Dickinson improving to 16-17 (8-2 NEC). Game two of the series is at 1 p.m. Friday (Apr. 15).
