EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 13, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse stays undefeated against Saint Francis as they picked up an 18-7 win behind
Christina Haspert's six points (3g, 3a).
Alayna Pagnotta had a season-high five goals, while
Zoe Hurlburt added four goals. The Mount outshot the Red Flash 32-16, including a 21-8 advantage at the half. The Mountaineers picked up their fourth consecutive win today.
Autumn McHenry had two goals and an assist, while Amanda Heidt and Christina Roncarati added two goals for Saint Francis.
Madison Bradley made four saves, and
Delaney LaRose made three saves for the Mountaineers. Elyssa Enrique made seven saves, and Taylor Coughlin registered two saves for the Red Flash.
The game started with trading goals to be tied at one, but Hurlburt found the back of the net to give the Mount a 2-1 lead. Heidt tied the score at two midway through the first quarter, but the Mountaineers ended on a 4-0 run. The run was kicked off when Haspert found Pagnotta open in front of the net, and she beat Enrique to take back the lead. Haspert scored a free position attempt to increase the lead to two, then Haspert assisted Pagnotta again on the same play to give the Mount a 5-2 lead.
Dani Donoghue made the score 6-2 on a quick counterattack by the Mountaineers when Donoghue spun around her defender and buried a one-on-one opportunity.
Haspert and Donoghue scored two goals to increase the Mount's lead to six goals, but Saint Francis got a goal back to cut the lead back to five. Pagnotta responded 13 seconds later to complete her hat trick and put the score at 9-3. Haspert scored her second goal on a fantastic solo effort after forcing a turnover then beating Coughlin one-on-one. Haspert then got her third assist to Pagnotta on the same play call to increase the lead to eight. C.C. Courter reduced the deficit to 11-4, but the Mountaineers scored two more goals before half to have a 13-4 lead.
The third quarter started with both teams trading possessions until the 7:26 mark when McHenry scored a free position attempt, but Hurlburt responded 32 seconds later to keep the lead at nine for the Mountaineers.
Jordan Groover scored her only goal to increase the Mount's lead to 15-5 with 2:06 left.
Saint Francis opened up the fourth quarter with two goals to make the score 15-7, but the Mount closed out the game on a 3-0 run. Hurlburt initiated the run on a free position goal. Pagnotta got her fifth on a free position with 3:21 left.
Beanie Colson scored the game's final goal on a nice pass from
Erin Anderson that put Colson in front of the crease, and she fired it past Enrique.
Mount St. Mary's welcomes Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 23rd at 3:00 p.m. for senior day.
