Beanie Colson’s Five Goals Propel the Mount Past High Point 11-6

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 5, 2022) – Mount women's lacrosse holds High Point to one goal in the first half as Beanie Colson scores five goals as the Mount secures an 11-6 victory over the Panthers. Zoe Hurlburt had three goals and an assist, while Erin Anderson had two goals and an assist. The Mountaineers outshot the Panthers 30-22 with a 20-12 advantage in shots on goal. 

Abby Hormes led High Point with three goals, while Emma Genovese and Kay Rosselli added two points each.

Madison Bradley made six saves for the Mountaineers, while Taylor Suplee made 11 saves for the Panthers.

The Mount got on the scoreboard first when Hurlburt found Donoghue in the middle, and Donoghue turned around and put it past Suplee to make it 1-0 in the first two minutes. Colson got her first goal on the afternoon after Groover found Colson wide open, and she walked through the middle and fired a shot past Suplee to make it 2-0. Both teams traded possessions, with the Mount holding High Point to only one shot on target in the first quarter.

Colson converted a free position shot within the first minute to give the Mountaineers a three-goal lead. Hormes scored on a man advantage after Nicole Pugh found Hormes cutting to the middle, and she put past Bradley for their first goal to cut the lead to two. The teams traded possessions for seven minutes until the Panthers fouled Anderson, and she converted a free position attempt to make the score 4-1 with 3:13 left. Colson scored her third goal with 22 seconds remaining, but Anderson made the score 5-1 with four seconds left in the quarter when Alayna Pagnotta found Anderson in front of the crease, and Anderson fired a shot past Suplee.

High Point came out of the locker room and scored two quick goals to reduce the lead to 6-3. Colson scored her fourth when Anderson ran behind the net and found Colson open in front of the net, and she put it the back of the net to make it 7-3 with 10:39 left in the third quarter. Colson scored her last goal when Donoghue found Colson cutting to the middle, and Colson fired her shot far post to beat Suplee and increase the lead to five goals. The Panthers made it 8-4 with 2:12 left in the quarter. The Mount and High Point traded late goals to make the score 9-5 at the end of the third.

The Panthers cut the lead to three to start off the fourth quarter. Hurlburt got her second goal on a free position attempt to make the score 10-6 with 10:23 remaining in the game. Both teams traded possessions then Hurlburt completed her hat trick on the man advantage to reach the final score of 11-6.

Mount St. Mary's heads to Fairfax, Virginia, to face off with George Mason on Wednesday, March 9th at 4:00 p.m.
