EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 25, 2022) – In the 2022 Northeast Conference opener, Mount St. Mary's baseball bolted out to a 5-1 lead with a monstrous third inning. But the opposing Fairleigh Dickinson Knights countered with a five run inning of their own, adding an insurance run later and holding off a ninth inning rally for the 7-6 win.
Thomas Bramley continued his slugging senior year with his seventh home run of the season.
Aiden Tierney and
Tristan McAlister added multi-hit efforts, with McAlister driving in a pair. On the hill,
Luke Pryor allowed for a comeback opportunity with three shutout frames to keep the Knights at bay.
After conceding a round tripper in the second inning, Bramley's blast exchanged the lead back to the Mountaineers and set up the big inning.
Tyler Long scored
Tyler Grodell on a single before McAlister's double in the gap brought home Long and
Brady Drawbaugh.
FDU's fourth inning comeback came at a steady rate. Playing small ball the Knights tallied four consecutive RBI singles, the last by Joan Sosa brining home two teammates. Zack Will's sacrifice fly in the sixth extended the lead to 7-5.
Ryan Fisher led off the ninth with a solo shot to pull within a run, but the Knights retired the final three batters to preserve their win.
Game two in Teaneck begins at 1 p.m. Saturday (March 26), streamed live on NECFrontRow.com.
