Emmitsburg, Md. (March 20, 2022)—The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team evened its conference record with a 4-1 win over visiting Saint Francis U at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts on Sunday.
The Mount (3-6, 2-2 NEC) took two of three matches to earn the doubles point and the early lead.
Ana Alvarez-Storni and
Ryan McCarthy teamed for a 6-3 win over Nagisa Miyake and Marie Discini at the No. 3 spot to put the Mount ahead. Saint Francis earned a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, but the Mount's No. 1 tandem of
Amber Policare and
Adriana Barney came through with a 6-4 win over Dominique Yeo and Anouk Ma-Ajong to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, the Mount won three matches to clinch the match. Liang coasted to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles of Ma-Ajong and Mathur had a straight set win over Cutipa, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles to put the Mount up 3-0. Saint Francis (7-12, 0-2 NEC) got a win at No. 6 singles, but Alvarez-Storni clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Miyake at No. 5 singles. The other two matches were not finished as the teams were playing to clinch.
The Mount returns to the court with a match at Delaware State on Tuesday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m.
