Cooper Adams Delivers Coach Leoni’s 600th Win, Series Finale to Mount

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 20, 2022) – Senior Cooper Adams turned in a complete game victory Sunday for Mount St. Mary's baseball, helping the team taking the final game of a three-game set with the Georgetown Hoyas, 3-1.

The win also marks the 600th career victory for the Mount's first-year head coach Frank Leoni. New to Emmitsburg, most of his wins came at his stops in Rhode Island, William & Mary and Marymount.

Going the distance, Adams took his first win as a Mountaineer, fanning 10 Hoyas among four scattered hits. The lone run came in a solo shot in the sixth by Georgetown's Jake Hyde. Following a challenging start, his spectacular effort lowered his season ERA by 10 points, from 17.47 to 7.36.

Offense stayed solid throughout the day, combining for 10 runs on 19 hits in the doubleheader. Aiden Tierney tallied the highest number of hits with four. Ryan Fisher, Tyler Long and Shane Wockley registered multiple hits in the opener, a 15-7 loss. Leading average holder Thomas Bramley homered in the first contest, bumping his long ball total to six, and added a pair of hits in the victory.

Brady Drawbaugh supplied the offense in the 3-1 win. His first inning triple scored Bramley and Tierney to secure a 2-0 advantage. In the fourth, he advanced on a passed ball and came home on a throwing error by the Georgetown catcher.

An additional top performance came from reliever Max Moore, reducing his season ERA to 0.77 and a team-high 16 strikeouts with a pair of spotless frames in the first game.

Improving to 4-11 on the year, Mount St. Mary's prepares to host George Mason in a midweek matinee at E.T. Straw Family Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday (March 23). The contest is the final non-conference tune up before Northeast Conference play begins.
