Emmitsburg, Md. (March 19, 2022)—The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team lost a tough match to visiting LIU, 4-2, on Saturday at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts.  The Mount falls to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in Northeast Conference play with the loss.

The Mountaineers grabbed the early lead by rallying to take the doubles point.  After LIU's Phoebe Watton and Bianca Compuesto posted a 6-2 win over the Mount's Ana Alvarez-Storni and Ryan McCarthy, the Mount rallied to win the next two matches to earn the doubles point. The Mount's No. 1 tandem of Amber Policare and Adriana Barney took a 6-4 win over LIU's Valentina Dancenco and Sofiya Kuzina.  Riya Mathur and Shirley Liang then clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Elinor Storkaas and Jasmine Maduel at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Policare earned a straight-set win over Kuzina, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles position.  LIU earned wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to clinch the match.

The Mount returns to action tomorrow with a home match against NEC rival Saint Francis U.  The match starts at 1 pm at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts.
