Mount Women’s Lacrosse Downed by Ohio State 16-9

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 12, 2022) – Mount women's lacrosse downed by Ohio State 16-9 as Jamie Lasda scores six goals to lead the Buckeyes over the Mountaineers. Zoe Hurlburt tallied four goals and one assist to lead the offense for the Mount, while Beanie Colson scored two goals. Madison Bradley made a career-high for the Mountaineers, including six saves in the third quarter. The Mountaineers were outshot 40-21. The Buckeyes had the advantage in the draw control with a 21-7, with Chloë Johnson leading the way with 11 draw controls.

Sophie Baez had three goals for Ohio State, while Nicole Ferrara, Lindsay Epstein, and Johnston tallied three points, while Regan Alexander made six saves for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State took a 1-0lead within the first minute on Lasda's first goal of the game. Hurlburt tied the score at one with 12:42 left for her 17th goal of the year, but the Buckeyes retook the lead less than 30 seconds later on Lasda's second goal. Lada completed her hat trick with 11:07 remaining in the first quarter to give Ohio State a 3-1 lead. Baez got her first goal to increase their lead to 4-1, but Jordan Groover converted on a free position attempt to make the score 4-2 with 5:35 left. Erin Anderson scored her 10th goal to cut the lead to one, but Baez scored her second with 12 seconds left to give the Buckeyes a 5-3 lead.

Epstein scored on a free position attempt with a man advantage just over a minute into the second quarter to give Ohio State a 6-3 lead. Lasda scored her fourth goal 42 seconds later to take a goal advantage. Ferrara scored her 14th goal of the season on a free position attempt to increase their lead to five goals. Lasda scored her fifth goal on a man advantage, and free position shot to take a 9-3 lead, but Dani Donoghue scored her 14 goal of the season to cut the deficit to five goals going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Mount and the Buckeyes were held scoreless for almost 13 and a half minutes when Jamie Level scored her first goal of the afternoon to take a 10-4 lead. The Buckeyes scored less than a minute later to increase the lead to seven goals.

Colson scored her first goal of the contest to reduce the deficit to 11-5. Colson scored minutes later to cut the lead down to five goals for the Mountaineers. The Mount and Ohio State traded goals midway through the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes added two goals to increase the lead to 15-8 with 3:29 left. Johnson and Hurlburt added a late goal to reach our final score of 16-9.

Mount St. Mary's will wrap up their out-of-conference schedule against Furman on Saturday, March 19th at 12:00 p.m.
