Bowling Rolls NCAA Season High Traditional Set, 3-0 at NEC #2

MT. JOY, Pa. (February 5, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's bowling picked up wins over #12 Duquesne, Saint Francis U, and Wagner to go a perfect 3-0 on the opening day of the second NEC meet of the season. The ladies now sit 9-1 overall, tied with Sacred Heart for first in conference standings. The 1,180 traditional set against Duquesne marks the highest traditional total in the NCAA this season according to ntcabowling.com, and sets a record for the program as a high score, toppling an 1,175 score against St. Francis Brooklyn in 2019.

Junior Amanda Yeung led the Mountaineers with a 680 (226.67 average) three game total. Senior Rebecca Dodson was right behind her with a 673 series (224.33 average). Senior Tamera Stanton (645 total, 215.0 average), sophomore Alyssa Alexander (642 total, 214.0 average) and freshman Rachel Hines (600, 200.0 average) rounded out the scoring for MSM.

#9 Mount: 1,180 | #12 Duquesne: 1,034

The Mount last competed at the Northeast Classic, where they concluded with a NCAA season record 253.25 average in their best-of-seven win over Duquesne. Now the Mount would open against the Dukes to resume conference play with another season record, this time a 1,180 traditional set, tops in the nation this year. All five Mountaineers went 214 or higher, led by Dodson with a 268 game and Alexander with a 249.

#9 Mount: 970 | Saint Francis U: 940

Despite being unranked, the Mountaineers got their toughest test of the day from the Red Flash on a tricky transition pair. Down by less than 10 pins with three frames to go, the ladies put together multiple strings heading into the tenth for a 970-940 victory. Stanton (211), Yeung (207) and Alexander (202) managed to cross the 200 plateau.

#9 Mount: 1,090 | Wagner: 981

Another unranked opponent meant another best shot, as Wagner totaled a daily high 981 pins against the Mountaineers. A strong second half for the Mount pushed them to 1,090 in a win that was closer than the final score indicated. Yeung and Dodson both posted 246 to lead the way. Stanton contributed nicely with a 212.

"In two straight competition days going back to the Northeast Classic we have seen our veteran team break NCAA season records," said head coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "This is a testament to how hot this team can get and their ability to sustain those streaks over a long period of time. Even in the Wagner and Saint Francis U match, we were forced to turn on the jets late when it looked like we had nothing going. I am beyond proud of the fight and tomorrow we have a great opportunity to be atop NEC standings heading into the final meet of the season."

The Mountaineers will face #19 Sacred Heart, St. Francis Brooklyn, #15 Fairleigh Dickinson, and #17 Long Island tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. All matches can be streamed live on the team's Facebook page.
