EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 5, 2022) – Behind the significant contributions of
Kayla Agentowicz,
Kendall Bresee and
Isabella Hunt, Mount St. Mary's defeated and took the season sweep over Bryant by a 68-52 final. As coincidence would have it, that final matched the same score between the two sides when they met in January.
Agentowicz put on a masterful shooting performance once again, leading all scorers with 17 points making seven of 11 shots, and three out of four from downtown. Hunt secured a career-high 13 rebounds and added 12 points for her second double-double as a Mountaineer. Bresee also earned a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. The duo of double-doubles replicates a feat performed by Bresee and
Rebecca Lee against Merrimack last season.
Bryant had three players reach double figures, led by Fatou Jallow with 13.
Mount St. Mary's pushed their win streak to two and their record to 9-10 (7-5 NEC). Bryant fell to 6-17 (4-8 NEC) this year.
Hunt and Agentowicz were initial catalysts from the tip, pairing up for four points each on an 8-0 run to open play. The Bulldogs countered with an 11-0 run of their own to lead after the first period.
Michaela Harrison chartered an immediate change of course to begin the second quarter with a triple that captured the advantage back. Jallow converted free throws at the 7:22 mark but the Mountaineers stayed up on a bucket from
Aryna Taylor. The lead grew as high as seven on a fast break layup from Agentowicz, but Jallow had enough room to polish off a trey as time expired.
Up 28-24 at the break, the Mount staved off a pair of Bulldog pushes, both of which brought the margin down to two. Bresee came to life in the second half, ending the first run with a layup. Agentowicz picked an excellent time for another three with 5:39 remaining to put the edge at 37-32.
A 12-2 run turned the tide late in the third, capped off by triples from Taylor and Agentowicz. From that point on, Mount's lead never sunk below double digits and a 16-11 scoring margin in the final quarter helped the visitors cruise to victory.
Mount St. Mary's returns home this Thursday (Feb. 10) to face Wagner. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Knott Arena.
