Pittsburgh, Pa. (February 4, 2022)--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams fell at Duquesne on Friday afternoon at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.  The men's team lost by a score of 5-2 while the women were downed, 6-1.
On the men's side, the Mount took the early lead by taking the doubles point.  
Jarrett Karnibad and 
Filippos Zachiotis teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles while 
Elliot Stevens and 
Giovanni Abriola clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 doubles spot over Kaipo Marshall and Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal.  In singles play, the Mount saw Abriola post a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 win at the No. 4 position over Duquesne's Tamirlan Teberikov to provide the Mount's second point in the match.
The women's team fell by a score of 6-1 to the Dukes on Friday.  Duquesne won two of three matches in doubles to earn the doubles point to take the 1-0 lead.  The Mount's 
Amber Policare and 
Riya Mathur posted a 7-6 (9-7) win over Margot Pessy and Ana Utrilla Beniot at the No. 1 doubles spot for the Mount's doubles win.  In singles play, 
Shirley Liang provided the Mount's point in the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Utrilla Benito at the No. 2 singles position.
The men's and women's tennis teams are back in action on Saturday, February 12, at Saint Joseph's.
