Beverly, Mass. (February 26, 2022)—The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Merrimack on Saturday at the Bass River Tennis Club.  The Mount (2-4, 1-0 NEC) took five of six singles matches to secure the victory.

Merrimack swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.  Mikaela Johnson Campana and Nikala Tuffanelli downed Ana Alvarez-Storni and Ryan McCarthy, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot while the Mount's Adriana Barney and Shirley Liang fell at No. 2 doubles to Rosemary Campanella and Dzhastina Mikhnova, 6-3.  Kristina Calistro and Allyson Nerf cruised to a 6-1 win over the Mount's Amber Policare and Riya Mathur at the No. 1 spot.

In singles play, Policare made quick work at the No. 1 singles position with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Calistro to quickly even the score at 1-1.  McCarthy added a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles over Tuffanelli to put the Mount ahead.  Alvarez-Storni posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Campana at No. 5 singles and Liang sealed the win with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Nerf at the No. 2 spot.  The final point was a 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9-7) win by Barney at No. 4 singles.  Mathur was edged by Mikhnova, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (9-7) at No. 3 singles to close out the match.

The Mount plays Bryant tomorrow.
