EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 26, 2022) – Mount women's lacrosse picks up their third win of the season after scoring five goals in the first quarter to defeat Binghamton 13-7.
Zoe Hurlburt led the Mountaineers with five points (3g, 2a), five ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Beanie Colson had three goals and one assist, while
Lindsey Tolliver added three assists and one goal in the victory this afternoon. The Mount had a slight edge in shots 26-20 over the Bearcats.
Madison Murphy led Binghamton with three goals, while Emily Masera and Kenna Newman added two points each.
Madison Bradley made seven saves for the Mountaineers, while Emily Manning made six saves for the Bearcats.
The Mount got on the scoreboard first when Hurlburt juked out some defenders to create space and fired a shot past Manning for a 1-0 lead. Binghamton equalized less than a minute later on Murphy's first goal of the game. The Mountaineers retook the lead 46 seconds later on a free position shot by Tolliver to make it 2-1.
Jordan Groover scored her seventh goal of the season to kick off a 3-0 run.
Dani Donoghue scored 28 seconds later after turning away from two defenders and firing a low shot while falling to make it 4-1. Colson scored her first goal of the game to give the Mount a four-goal advantage.
Both teams traded possessions to start the second quarter until the Bearcats found the back of the net with 9:46 left in the quarter. The Mount responded on their next possession with a free position goal from Hurlburt to put the score at 6-2. Binghamton cut the lead down to three on Masera's only goal of the game. Hurlburt completed her hat trick with 1:52 left in the quarter after splitting two defenders and firing a bouncing shot that got past Manning to give the Mount a 7-3 lead.
Abby Carroll got the Bearcats on the scoreboard first within two minutes to reduce the lead to three goals. Colson got her second goal of the game after she scooped up a ground ball in front of the net and beat Manning to make the score 8-4.
Anna McQuay scored her first goal of the season after she got around two defenders and fired a bouncer that got past Manning to give the Mountaineers a five-goal lead. Donoghue scored her 12th goal of the year on a nice pass from Tolliver to make it 10-4. Murphy got her second goal with eight seconds left in the third.
Binghamton found the back of the net first in the fourth quarter when Murphy got her third goal with 9:19 remaining in the quarter. Groover scored her second goal of the game after Colson found her cutting to the middle, and she put past Manning near post to put the lead at five goals. Colson got her third goal, her first hat trick of the season, after Tolliver found Colson open in the middle and rifled a shot past Manning to make it 12-6. The Mount and Binghamton traded late goals to reach the final score of 13-7.
Mount St. Mary's wraps up their three-game home stand on Saturday, March 5th, at 1:00 p.m. against High Point.
