February 21, 2022--The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team lost at Howard on Monday night to fall to 1-4 on the season.
Ana Alvarez-Storni provided the Mount's point with a win at No. 5 singles.
The Bison swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Jordan Grayson and Sifa Butcher posed a 6-2 win over the Mount's
Amber Policare and
Riya Mathur at No. 1 doubles. Nadia Pegram and Yemisi Ifederu topped
Adriana Barney and
Shirley Liang, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles while Alexandra Blackwell and Kendall Addison downed Alvarez-Storni and
Ryan McCarthy, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Alvarez-Storni earned a 6-2, 2-6, 9-7 win over Blackwell at the No. 5 singles spot for the Mountaineers. Liang dropped a three-set match to Buther, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Grayson beat Policare at No. 1 (7-5, 6-3), Pegram downed Mathur at No. 3 (6-4, 6-4), Ifederu won at No. 4 over Barney (6-1, 75) and annah El Sharif topped McCarthy at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-2).
The Mount is back in action this weekend with a pair of Northeast Conference matchups at Merrimack (Feb. 26) and Bryant (Feb. 27).
