Raleigh, N.C. (February 20, 2022)—The Mount St. Mary's softball team lost at NC State, 11-0, on Sunday afternoon to close out the Wolfpack Classic. The Mount finished its opening tournament with a 2-3 record.
NC State (9-1) broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. After getting the first two runs on a sacrifice fly and a Taylor Johnson RBI single, Kaylee Lambrecht broke the game open with a three-run homer to make it 5-0. Lambrecht homered twice in yesterday's 9-0 win over the Mount.
A six-run third inning for NC State was highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Randi Farricker and Carson Shaner.
Zoe Truxon collected the Mount's lone hit in the game.
Avery Neuhart, coming off a 1-0 shutout win over Lehigh yesterday, started and allowed eight runs in two innings of work.
Olivia Murphy allowed three runs with a pair of strikeouts in two innings of relief.
The Mount is back in action next weekend at the DeMarini Invitational hosted by Stanford. The Mountaineers will play a pair of games against both Stanford and California at the tournament.
