EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 19, 2022) – The Mountaineers picked up their second win of the 2022 season after defeating Hampton 17-5 on Saturday afternoon. The Mount was led by
Jared McMahon's five points (4g, 1a) and
Kyle DeCrispino's first career hat trick.
Cormac Giblin added two assists and a goal, while
Edward Gigliotti II and
Kyle Cullen had two goals and an assist in the victory. The Mountaineers outshot the Pirates 60-29 with a 40-19 advantage in shots on goal.
Andrew Preston started the game for the Mount and made four saves in the first half, then
Gunnar Luckoski made his debut in the second half and registered 10 saves in net.
Hampton's Miles Fawcett had a team-high two goals, with Ethan Mitchell tallying two assists. Paxtin Powell made 17 saves for the Pirates between the pipes.
The Mountaineers started off the game on a 7-0 run that was kicked off by J. McMahon on a nice pass by Giblin.
Jeremy Wilson made it 2-0, 25 seconds later after
Justin Weick found Wilson on the side of the goal, and Wilson beat the goalie over his shoulder.
Kelly Gouin got his first goal of the season to make it 3-0, and less than a minute later, Giblin made it 4-0 with 8:55 remaining in the first quarter. J. McMahon got his second on a nice pass from Giblin from behind the net. Sixteen seconds later, McMahon completed his hat trick to give the Mountaineers a 6-0 with 3:11 remaining. J. McMahon scored his fourth goal of the quarter to increase the lead to seven. The Pirates got on the board with 1:34 remaining to make it 7-1.
Gigliotti II scored his first collegiate goal after
Jake Krieger found Gigliotti II trailing behind him to make it 8-1. DeCrispino scored with 10:50 remaining to increase the lead to eight.
Casey Domanski scored his first collegiate goal after blowing by his defender and firing a shot past the goalie. Hampton scored two goals 41 seconds apart to make it 10-3. The Mount closed out the second quarter on a 3-0 run that included goals from Domanski, DeCrispino, and Cullen to give the Mount a 13-3 lead at halftime.
DeCrispino completed his hat trick on a pass from Gigliotti II, who found him open in the middle, and DeCrispino shot behind his shoulder to score the only goal of the third quarter. Luckoski made six saves for the Mountaineers in the third quarter to hold Hampton scoreless.
Gigliotti II scored his second goal after he picked up a ground ball on a Hampton turnover to make it 16-3. After a Mount turnover, Hampton scored their fourth goal and gave the Pirates a 3-on-1. Cullen responded six seconds later with his second goal of the game.
C.W. Smith scored his first collegiate goal to provide the Mount with a 13 goal advantage. Hampton scored the game's final goal on a man advantage to reach the final score of 17-5.
