Women’s Lacrosse Scores Six in the Second Quarter to Defeat Towson 14-11 in their Season Opener

EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 12, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse starts off the 2022 campaign with a 14-11 over the Towson Tigers, the Mount's first-ever victory against Towson. Alayna Pagnotta led the way with four goals and two assists, while Dani Donoghue had a career-high four goals. Lindsey Tolliver had three assists and one goal in her collegiate debut, while Zoe Hurlburt and Erin Anderson had two goals and one assist each. The Mount dominated draw controls winning 18 compared to Towson's 10.

Halley Koras led the offensive charge for the Tigers with four goals, while Blair Pearre and Kaitlin Thornton each had two goals and one assist.

Madison Bradley posted a four save performance for the Mount, while Sara Tyssowski made nine saves for Towson.

The Tigers started with Kaitlin Thornton scoring on Towson's first shot to take a 1-0 lead. Pearre made it 2-0 two minutes later on a free position attempt, but Donoghue got her first on the day on a free position attempt to cut the lead to 2-1. Towson scored their third goal of the quarter to extend the lead back to two. Anderson scored her first of the season, but Towson scored a minute later to make it 4-2.

Towson scored two minutes into the second quarter on a man advantage to make it 5-2. The Mountaineers went on a 4-0 run that spanned 4:28 that was kicked off by a free position attempt by Pagnotta. Donoghue scored her second goal of the day 23 seconds later to cut the lead to one. Hurlburt tied the game up at five, with 9:25 remaining in the second quarter. Donoghue completed her first hat trick to give the Mount their first lead at 6-5. The Tigers tied the game at six after Koras scored on the man advantage. The Mountaineers scored two quick goals to take an 8-6 lead, with Donoghue and Jordan Groover each scoring, but Thornton scored right before halftime to give the Mount an 8-7 lead.

The Mount got on the board quickly in the third quarter after Pagnotta scored her second goal. Kerri Thornton scored her second goal about six minutes later to put the lead back at one. Pagnotta completed her hat trick with 3:46 remaining in the third quarter, but Towson scored a minute later to make it 10-9 going into the fourth quarter.

Hurlburt scored her second of the game on the man advantage to give the Mount a two-goal lead, then Anderson scored four minutes later to make it 12-9. Pearre scored to reduce the lead to two, but Tolliver scored her collegiate goal 26 seconds later to make it 13-10. Koras scored her fourth goal of the game with 3:11 remaining, but Pagnotta sealed the game with her fourth goal to reach the final score of 14-11.

Mount St. Mary's hosts UMBC in their home opener on Wednesday, February 16th at 3:00 p.m.
