Slow Start Dooms Mount as #16 Delaware Comes Away Victorious 12-6

EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 12, 2022) – The Mountaineers fall to #16 Delaware on Saturday afternoon 12-6 after the Blue Hens hold the Mount to one goal in the first half. Eight players for the Mount tallied a point, with Jared McMahon extending his scoring streak to seven games.
 
Delaware's JP Ward and Clay Miller each had four points, with Ward having two goals and two assists, while Miller had three goals and one assist.
 
 The Mount's Griffin McGinley made ten saves in net, and Matt Kilkeary made 16 saves for the Blue Hens.
 
The game started with both teams trading possessions until Ward got the Blue Hens on the board with 4:31 remaining in the first quarter. Miller scored about a minute later to make it 2-0.
 
Delaware started the second quarter with a 3-0 run that spanned about three minutes to give the Blue Hens a 5-0 lead. McMahon got the Mountaineers on the score sheet with 5:55 remaining in the second quarter to reduce the lead to four. Mike Robinson scored his only goal of the day to give Delaware a 6-1 lead going into the locker room.
 
The Blue Hens went on another 3-0 run that lasted three minutes to extend the margin to eight. Both teams traded a barrage of shots until Delaware found the back of the net again to make it 10-1. Jake Krieger scored his second goal of the season on the man advantage to end the third quarter trailing 10-2.   
 
Cormac Giblin and Connor McMahon scored two quick goals to cut the lead to six, but Delaware scored two more goals to make it 12-4 with 3:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. Brendan Lantieri scored a man-advantage goal to cut the deficit to seven, and 46 seconds later, Kyle DeCrispino scored the game's final goal with 1:39 left.
 
Connor Beals went 5-out-of-14 (35.7%), and Ethan Holobinko went 6-out-of-8 (75%) from the X today.
 
The Mountaineer's next game is at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Tuesday, February 15th, at 4:00 p.m. against the Towson Tigers.
