EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 9, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball concludes its three-game road trip to open the season with a return to the venue that hosted them during the NCAA Tournament. This time, however, the Mount challenges the squad that calls Reynolds Coliseum home – the No. 10 ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack.
MOUNT OUTLOOK
What looked like a challenging road trip to open the season has proven correct as the Mount has been on the wrong end of 101-45 and 87-44 final scores.
Michaela Harrison and
Natalie Villaflor are averaging double figures across the pair of games, with Harrison on top at 13.5 points per game and Villaflor holding 10 PPG. In the most recent game against the Richmond Spiders, Villaflor set a career high in assists with four.
Jo Raflo added a fine performance of eight points while setting a career high in steals with three and tying her career best with two blocks.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA STATE
Starting 2-0 to open their campaign, the Wolfpack defeated Quinnipiac and Elon before taking on the Mount. The win over the Phoenix was the 1,000
th in program history. Last season, N.C. State earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, defeating Longwood, Kansas State and Notre Dame before falling in double overtime to UConn.
Wes Moore's 2022-23 team have provided a balanced attack so far with Camille Hobby, Diamond Johnson and Madison Hayes averaging double figures. Saniya Rivers leads in assists (3.0 APG) while tied for the team lead in rebounds (5.0 RPG).
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Sunday is the third meeting between the Mountaineers and Wolfpack. The sides first played on neutral ground in 2004 at the Saint Peter's Christmas Classic in New Jersey. A decade later, Mount made its first journey to Raleigh, falling 85-60 to the Wolfpack.
This is the third time overall that Mount St. Mary's has played in Reynolds Coliseum when adding in last year's First Four contest against the Longwood Lancers.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next Saturday (Nov. 19) marks the Mount's home opener against Navy. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at Knott Arena.
