EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 28, 2022) – Holding the first spot out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer looks to their next-to-last chance to secure points, taking on Iona in the final home game of the 2022 regular season.
Before the start of the match, the Mount honors eight seniors in a pre-game ceremony –
Justus Akinlosotu,
Gavin Watt,

ABOUT THE MOUNT
Cumulating 10 points in MAAC so far, the Mountaineers stand in seventh place in the standings. The team is also looking to rebound from a 5-0 defeat last Wednesday versus Quinnipiac.
Jesus Salazar and
Ruben Kiers remain tied for the team lead in goals with four, and Salazar holds the sole lead in assists with eight and points with 16.
Ethan Russell has started every game in goal, earning a .700 save percentage.
A victory would secure at least a .500 season, which would be a program first since 2011 when that team went 8-7-2.
ABOUT IONA
Sitting in third place, the Gaels are one point away from obtaining a bye in the first round of the MAAC tournament. They arrive in Emmitsburg seeking their first win away from New Rochelle, splitting six decisions between three draws and three defeats.
Boasting a diverse number of goal scorers, Camil Azzam Ruiz leads Iona with three goals and multiple players have registered two. Goalkeeper Juan Alfaro Monge has provided a solid presence in goal with a .774 save percentage and 1.08 goals against average.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Saturday serves as a grudge match between the sides with both teams taking two games apiece. The last meeting is September 2011 – a 4-3 overtime win for the Gaels.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The regular season concludes Wednesday (Nov. 2) at Marist.
