EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 6, 2021) – Facing a tough Big Ten challenger, Mount St. Mary's was shutout by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Labor Day, 2-0.
The Mount (1-2) earned most of their offensive opportunities early, registering four of the team's six shots for the game within the first 16 minutes of the contest. Both second half shots were on goal, taken by sophomore
Adao Manuel and freshman
Jonathan Yowell. Each shot was repelled by the Rutgers net minder Oren Asher.
Rutgers' (3-0-1) first goal came in the 37
th minute off the boot of substitute Ola Maeland. Goal number two came in the second half when Pablo Avila scored in the 59
th minute.
By game's end, the Scarlet Knights out shot 16-6. Mount goalkeeper
Adam Siviter saved four of the six shots on goal aimed at him.
Mount St. Mary's returns home to face Bucknell at 7 p.m. Friday (Sept. 10).
