EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 30, 2021) – Juan Molina put the Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team up 1-0 with an early goal, but Central Connecticut responded with four unanswered to defeat the home side, 4-1, Thursday afternoon.
CCSU opened play with control in the first few minutes, but the Mount took over and seemed to take charge when Molina recovered his own rebound off a saved shot to score in the 16
th minute. 10 minutes later, the ball found the foot of the Blue Devils' Johnny Morrell. Keeper
Ethan Russell managed to get a hand on it, but the shot trickled across the line to draw level.
A free kick close to the box gave Sean Gannon a golden opportunity for CCSU, which he took advantage of by firing a shot into the left corner. The visitors led 2-1 at the break.
Two more goals at the midway point of the second half sealed the match for Central Connecticut. Jakob Welle-Smogeli and Erik Hjersson were credited with the scores. More than half the shots fired on goal for the Blue Devils were successful.
Mount St. Mary's finished the match with 10 shots, eight on goal.
Alek Wroblewski led with three tries.
The Mountaineers welcome St. Francis Brooklyn Sunday (Oct. 3) for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
