EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 25, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's begins its 2021 season in their own backyard, hosting the Saint Peter's Peacocks Thursday evening at Waldron Family Stadium.
MOUNT UPDATE
In the shortened Spring 2021 season, the Mount went 1-5-2 with their lone victory coming against Sacred Heart on March 22
nd. Draws came against Central Connecticut and Bryant, also in March.
Both All-Northeast Conference selections are back with the team. Second Teamer
Gavin Watt returns after effective back line play and four points on set piece goals. Rookie selection
Alek Wroblewski tied for the team lead in goals with three and returns for his sophomore season.
Goalkeeper
Adam Siviter is set to hold watch at the net again this year as well, following 27 saves in his first season in Emmitsburg. Behind the senior is depth at the position with two sophomores and a freshman.
The roster is made up of 32 student-athletes, split between 19 returners and 13 newcomers – 10 freshmen and three transfers.
Bryan Cunningham, overseer of the program since its return in 2018 is back for his fourth season. Coach Cunningham also retained his assistants,
Trevor Singer and
Daniel O'Rourke.
ABOUT SAINT PETER'S
The Peacocks have enjoyed a recent surge of success, making three consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournaments and a regular season title in 2019.
Following a 3-3-1 effort last spring, Saint Peter's biggest challenge will be replacing their top two goal scorers and their keeper. Dominic Laws and Jordan Jowers accounted for nine of the team's 13 goals, and Robbie Anderson limited the opposition to 1.78 goals per game.
Boasting a large international roster, SPU carries 13 players born outside the United States. Most come from England but is also comprised of Norwegians, New Zealanders, and an Italian, Brazilian and a Spaniard.
ALL-TIME SERIES
This is the fifth all-time meeting between the Mountaineers and Peacocks, in a series that has been on hiatus since 2002. The contest also serves as a grudge match, with each side claiming two victories. Mount St. Mary's last defeated the Peacocks 4-0 in 2000.
