Baseball’s Senior Day Spoiled by Blue Devils’ Extra Inning Charge

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 14, 2021) – Senior Day for Mount St. Mary's baseball went into extra innings Friday, but Central Connecticut spoiled the party with three runs in the 10th inning, taking game two of the series by a 5-2 final.

Plenty of seniors contributed positive outcomes for the Mount, starting with starter Jordan Geber. Picking up where he left off, Geber shut out CCSU for seven innings before giving up a two run shot in the eighth. Striking out five Blue Devils along the way, he lowered his season ERA to a team best 3.88.

Andrew Malone left his mark on the day, opening the home team's scoring with a home run in the seventh. The round tripper is the second in his career and first since 2018. Myles Nicholson is responsible for the team's additional run – a single in the eighth to score Tyler Long.

With the two sides deadlocked, the Mount called on Brenden Kennedy for his initial relief appearance this year. He got the Mountaineers to within an out of maintaining the tie when Central Connecticut's Sam Loda found pay dirt with an RBI single. Another home run for the Blue Devils added insurance.

Mount St. Mary's built a rally in the bottom of the 10th, loading the bases off two walks and a Nicholson single. With the winning run at the dish, CCSU induced a popup to preserve their win.

Nine of the 11 seniors honored made it into the game, with eight of them starting. One senior absent is battling an injury with the final player, Michael Yetter, is tabbed to take the mound in the home finale.

The Mount plays their final home contest at 1 p.m. Saturday (May 15).
