EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 9, 2021) – A pair of two out rallies did not stem the losing streak for Mount St. Mary's baseball. Friday's 8-5 loss to Sacred Heart marks their eighth straight defeat.
Myles Nicholson led the offense again for the Mount (5-18, 1-9 NEC), netting three hits in five tries, and adding two runs.
Ryan Haddaway joined Nicholson in the multi-hit column with two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Seven pitchers took the hill, with scoreless efforts coming from
Ryan Ament,
Brett Midkiff,
Max Moore and
Dennis Snyder.
Sacred Heart (11-15, 6-4 NEC) got seven innings from starter Chase Jeter, who did not allow an earned run in the effort. Elijah Brown went 4-for-6 with a pair of dingers.
The Mount got four of their five runs in two out rallies. After trailing 2-0, Haddaway reached on a single, then came home as
Thomas Savastio reached on an error. That was the closest the Mountaineers would get as Sacred Heart built their lead up to 6-1.
Haddaway's RBI single scored Nicholson for the second run. The game was made more interesting in the seventh by a three run Mount inning, as
AJ Holcomb reached on an error leading to two runs and Savastio tallying an RBI single.
The Pioneers got the final six outs in seven tries, with reliever David Aufiero recording his first save of the season.
Game two between the squads begins at 1 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 10).
