EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 10, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's baseball dropped its ninth straight contest Saturday, giving up 14 runs to the Sacred Heart Pioneers. The Mount got within three runs before falling 14-7 at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
Ryan Haddaway led the charge on offense, with three hits in four at-bats, two runs and an RBI. Freshman
Efrain Correa, Jr. delivered clutch performances with three runs driven in, and third baseman
AJ Holcomb registered a multi-hit game.
Haddaway's first hit gave the Mount a 1-0 lead when his single drove home
Ryan Fisher. That lead was short lived as Sacred Heart scored nine unanswered runs. The Pioneer surge was aided by home runs in the third and fourth innings.
Holcomb and Correa plated two runs in the fourth, setting up a later rally by the Mount to get back into the game. Their biggest push came in the sixth, sparked by the same duo. Holcomb scored
Myles Nicholson with an RBI single, followed by Correa's double to score two.
Brady Drawbaugh hit a sacrifice fly to cap off the inning and pull the contest to 10-7.
Sacred Heart ensured the Mount got no closer with insurance runs in the seventh and eighth. The Mountaineers were unable to answer over the last three frames.
Sunday's (Apr. 11) contest has moved up to 11 a.m. in anticipation of afternoon weather.
