EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 25, 2021) – The trio of
Michael Yetter,
Patrick Burke and
Ryan Ament held the Wagner Seahawks in check Sunday, helping Mount St. Mary's earn a series win over the Staten Island group with a 7-1 victory in the finale.
Holding the visitors to four hits on the afternoon, the Yetter-Burke pairing split a total of 10 strikeouts. No Seahawk registered a base knock after the fourth inning. Burke's outing was undoubtedly his finest as a Mountaineer, earning his first win with 3 2/3 innings of near spotless pitching. The freshman Ament retired all six batters he faced.
The Mount seized control of the game in the first inning.
Ryan Fisher walked, then took two bases on a wild pitch.
Myles Nicholson sent him home with his at-bat.
In the second, the home side secured four runs by batting around. The first seven hitters reached the bags, and the team's offensive charge came without the benefit of an extra base hit.
Additional runs came via a double from
Thomas Savastio in the fourth and a towering blast from Fisher in the sixth.
The victory moves the Mount to 8-23 this year and 4-14 in the Northeast Conference. Sunday marked the first series win for the team this season.
Next up for Mount St. Mary's is a series in North Andover, Mass. with Merrimack. Games run April 30
