EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 24, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's was unable to build a win streak Saturday, falling to Wagner 16-3. But several players made highlight reel plays in the defeat.
Shane Wockley hits his second home run in as many days, and
Tyler Long hit his first career shot, going back-to-back in the fifth inning. Later in the game, fellow freshmen
Jake Maske collected his first-ever RBI with a single.
On defense the Mount made several key plays. Sophomore
Matt McTighe robbed Wagner's Jared Gillen of an extra base hit before doubling off a runner who vacated first. In the eighth, with the Seahawks running again,
Myles Nicholson grabbed a liner out of the air, stepped on the bag at second and threw to first for the final out.
First baseman
Thomas Savastio had the lone multi-hit game for the Mountaineers, going 2-for-4.
Wagner ran away with the contest early, scoring six times in the third and five more in the fifth.
The rubber game of the series takes place 1 p.m. Sunday.
